"Jesse Wheaton is an explorer. His inquisitive nature is his grand driving force, a great trait for any artist. His constant quests for new experiences and discoveries are his steady current. Jesse is unafraid to use bold color, strong gestures and lush surfaces in his work. This aggressive approach always has an underlying sense of tenderness and frailty, making the work easily accessible and inclusive."

-Arngunnur Yr // Marx and Zavattero Gallery, San Francisco

"Not every artist is versatile and sticks to one medium for most of their career. Within Jesse Wheaton's Open Me, he shares his perspective with photographs and paintings, as well as design and apparel. The photographs are daunting, capturing the images he has documented from his travels, ranging in landscapes (whether it is just his view from a building or the people he has spent time with). In contrast, his paintings are full of vibrant colors - producing the vibrant thoughts from his innerscape - resembling the universe meshed with the street arts we live with in reality."

-Kyla Rivera // Artist, New York City

"Oakland. What an exciting character. The kind that's in your face all day everyday talking to you with its painted walls, yelling at you, robbing you, but ultimately loving you. Loving you with the kind of tough unconditional love that puts a certain swagger in your step, a sharp wit on your tongue and a stance so rooted and tall nothing can knock you down. Jesse's work embodies this in such a pure and sophisticated way. It is whimsical, thought provoking, confrontational, and above all, honest. I can't wait to see what Jesse does next."

"Jesse Wheaton's development as a dynamic young artist shows a drive for personal exploration, collaborative community mentorship, and experimentation with diverse mediums. His personal drive proves a representation of the modern urban movement towards a multidisciplinary tactile and electronic balance in the Arts. Wheaton is an energetic young artist to be watched in every aspect he explores."

-Kristi Holohan // RPS Gallery, Oakland

"Jesse Wheaton's work is varied, inspired, and full of life: there is nothing that becomes predictable. His works appear adventurous and explorational; a perfect reflection of a young man with an appetite to taste all that life has to offer. While youth pulses from some of the pieces, at the same time I see and feel an old soul. These works clearly allow us to see through his eyes; where he is and where he'd like to be. It is a sensitive and playful collection."

-Jacob Battersby // Celsius 7

"Jesse Wheaton offers up a fun and diverse range of work in Open Me, a daring attempt to depict years of intimate thoughts, emotions, and experiences through the eyes of a vagabonding artist."

-Sarah Sexton // Oaktown Indie Mayhem Art Publication

"If there is something in the Oakland water turning people into artists, Jesse drank it, and his art retains the taste. His work shares an appetite for the gritty, the urban, the choppy, and the on-edge."

-Dorone Smith // Artist, British Columbia

"Subject and medium are both objects of exploration in much of Jesse's work. While creating works of beautiful aesthetic, he also succeeds in drawing out the expression of the medium he is using. He is a seeker and he shares well what he finds. With the strength of his youth to drive him, his artistic journey promises to be an art of its own. We are all looking forward to seeing what he else he can discover."

-Nathan Walker // Artist, Cooper Union Alumnus

"Open Me is a fitting title for the expansive works within it. The breadth and depth of the imagery and mediums are refreshing and intriguing. The multiple-platform series allows you to see things the way Jesse does: beautifully and vividly."

OPEN ME

I was backpacking alone across Asia in 2013, leaving any work I made with those I'd met. When I left NYC I had loaned all my paintings, equipment, and negatives to friends. My work was scattered across world. I decided to accumulate my better creations into a few prints of a tangible book.

I began by sketching out designs for Open Me in a Bungalow in Koh Tao and after a million re-drafts I came back to the states at the turn of 2014 with the first copy. Its the sole residence of all my best work from my childhood until today, so its very special to me. It's a way for me to give you everything I've created all together in one piece.

Open Me is a Large Print art book of my paintings, photography, and designs. It rests nicely across your lap at 8"x10" (landscape) with 52 full color pages of extremely high-quality images printed against a portfolio black background on Thick Proline Pearl Coated Photo Paper (heavy, saturated colors, deep blacks and generally the sexiest paper around). I'm selling it at the cost of printing for your enjoyment.

Some very talented artists have written descriptions of the artwork inside: a collection of my best work as well as unseen paintings and photography from recent adventures. I also wrote about some of the craziest pieces, explaining the friends and adventures they were inspired by and what they mean. I'm painting the spine of each book so that they're each one of a kind.
Open Me is available on Etsy and Amazon, but here you get to choose a price. You can choose to get it non-profit or decide to give something, either way I'm happy to share my art with you.

We sold out out the limited run!
