"Komorebi" was inspired by a tree that stands on the East side of Central Park near e73rd st. and the adventures that took place there. When light filters through the back of the canvas the thin gauche layer of leaves glow like stained glass. I was backpacking in Tokyo and learned the term Komorebi, which most closely translates to "the scene produced by interplay of sunlight and trees."
Limited-edition prints of this painting are available in the shop. I used water-based guache in the original, so the paint bleeds like watercolors. When its printed on really fine cotton paper it creates these weird illusion where it looks like watercolor on paper and a print of a canvas at the same time.
